Week 1 — Tools · Ear Before Eye

Purpose: the two free browser tools the daily loop and the weekly recordings assume. Both load in any browser, need no account and no download, and were verified live during this build.

The two tools

1. Online Tone Generator — your pitch source for pitch matching, hold-your-do, and the weekly recordings.
Settings: leave the wave on sine (the clean default), set a comfortable volume, type any number between 200 and 330 in the frequency box, and press play. That range sits well for most voices — and if a tone sits high for yours, match it an octave down; that's a full-credit match, per the standing rule. The up/down arrows nudge the tone, which is exactly how you'll make it "argue" with you in the hold-your-do task.

2. Musicca Metronome — your pulse source for beat keeping and grouping practice.
Settings: drag the slider anywhere from 60 to 92 BPM for this week's loop; the tap button sets it to a song you're checking. For grouping practice, use the control at the bottom of the page that groups the clicks — set it to 2 or to 4 and listen for the accented first click coming around; that's the "returning weight" from the studio, on demand.

Both tools are convention-neutral — they make tones and clicks, and never impose names, syllables, or systems that could collide with this course's conventions. No sign-up screens stand between you and the sound; ignore any optional account features.

One boundary worth restating: tools are for practice. Everything that counts summatively in this course is heard live, in the room.
