(A) Week 4 Overview — Start Here

Welcome to Unit 4: Major on Solfège

The handover week. Three weeks of sounds sung on "loo" meet the naming system the theory class delivers this morning: movable-do solfège, the major scale, key signatures, scale degrees. Three firsts follow an hour later — the full scale on syllables, your first sight-singing, and your first melodic dictation. Four keys: G, F, D, C.

Why this makes you a better musician

Every capo move, every "let's take it down a step," every tune you've transposed by feel is movable do working uninstructed. This week the trick becomes a system: do travels, the ladder holds, and a page of notation becomes something you can hear before you sing. Reading music stops being decoding and starts being listening in advance.

How to succeed: rotate the key daily — G, F, D, C — so no single do gets to feel like "the real one."

(B) Announcement — Week 4

Subject: The syllables are here — and you already know the tune

Hi everyone,

Big morning. This morning the theory class names the major scale and movable-do solfège; an hour later those names land on sounds you've sung since Unit 1. The do ritual you know by heart? Same shape — from session 1 on it's sung do–mi–sol–mi–do, on syllables.

Do Tutorial 4 before session 1 — twenty minutes of syllable-letter-degree conversion that makes the whole studio faster. Two firsts worth being present for: sight-singing and melodic dictation. Session 2 ends with Skills Check 4, practiced that same morning. Recordings, dictation, and practice close at the end of the week. Next week: Minor, three ways, by ear.
