(A) Week 6 Overview — Start Here

Welcome to Unit 6: Intervals Outward I

This morning in theory, intervals got their names — size from letters, quality from half steps. An hour later the names attach to sounds you've carried for years, like the leap that opens Twinkle, Twinkle. Six gaps this week — m2, M2, m3, M3, P4, P5 — sung, heard up and down, taken in dictation. Melodies may now leap as far as a fifth; minor stays in the rotation.

Why this makes you a better musician

Harmony singers, bass players, and horn sections live on distances. After this week a gap between two notes is an address you can name and sing — how you tune a harmony line instead of hunting near it, and how next week's wide leaps become bookkeeping instead of guesswork.

How to succeed: sing the ladder daily — small doses, out loud, from any do your voice likes.

Hi everyone,

This week the two courses shake hands mid-morning: in this morning's theory session you learn to spell the distance between two notes; an hour later you prove you've been hearing those distances all along.

Run Tutorial 6 before session 1; the studio leans on its naming strategy from the first drill. Session 2 ends with Skills Check 6 — eight questions, all ears. Recordings, trainer session, and practice close at the end of the week. Next week: Intervals outward II.

Bring the voice you have. The gaps do the rest.
