(A) Week 8 Overview — Start Here

Welcome to Unit 8: Foundations, Consolidated in Minor

One meeting this week — it is the paired theory course's exam week — and it lands on a big morning: this morning the theory midterm certifies the names of the first seven units; an hour later we certify the sounds — the same seven units, sung, echoed, and taken in dictation, nothing new in it. The centerpiece: your first 4-bar dictation, both modes, four hearings — the protocol beats memory span, and this week proves it.

Work the table top to bottom.

# Do this Type Points Due
1 Tutorial 8 — AI tutor: mixed-set conversions, both modes, both meters Tutorial 10 before session 1
2 Drill Studio 8 — the one session: echo medley, minor loops, the 4-bar dictation Studio 20 in session 1
3 Skills Check 8 — 8 live-hearing items, same session, after the drills Skills check 8 session 1
4 Practice 8 — the daily ten-minute mixed loop + AI coach Practice 5 the end of the week
5 Submission 8 — two recordings + a 4-bar self-dictation + what-broke reflection Submission 100 the end of the week

The late-work policy is in the syllabus.

Why this makes you a better musician

Seven weeks of separate skills just answered as one ear — mixed, at speed, mostly in minor. That's the difference between knowing drills and owning a literacy: the sounds come when called, in any order.

How to succeed: in a one-meeting week the daily loop carries you — small doses, daily, voice first.

(B) Announcement — Week 8

Subject: One morning, two certifications — then breathe

Hi everyone,

Session 1 is a marathon morning, I know: the theory midterm, then us an hour later. So our session is a release — all singing, all familiar, seven weeks you already own in one loud, fast hour. You'll take your first four-bar dictation in both modes (trust the protocol, not your memory), and the skills check runs right after the drills, same session.

Do Tutorial 8 before class — mixed sets, so nothing surprises you. Recordings, practice, and your what-broke reflection close at the end of the week — then rest your ears; you'll have earned it twice in one morning. Next unit: Triads by ear.

See you in the studio — you're ready for both halves of it.
