Format: about 20 minutes with your own AI chatbot. Copy the boxed prompt as one message. The tutor cannot hear you; it drills the conversions, and the sounding happens after, away from the chat.

Part 1 — The conventions, pinned

Five stops, one table:

The PAC/IAC hinge, worked once: in G major the authentic arrival is D–F♯–A moving to G–B–D — sol falling to do in the bass either way. What makes it perfect is the top voice ending on do (G): fully shut. Same two chords with the melody ending on mi (B): still authentic, still closed underneath — but the top voice hangs off home, so it's imperfect. Bass names the family; top voice sets the finality.

Function ties it together: V is the dominant lean, IV the predominant approach, and the deceptive arrival on vi lands on a tonic-family chord — near home, not home. A phrase ends in exactly one of these stops; a question phrase and its answer, paired, make a period.

Known failure modes: any bass do voted "finished" (check the top voice) · deceptive called a wrong chord (it's a postponed promise) · half cadence called a breakdown (it's a rest stop on sol).

Part 2 — The tutor prompt (copy everything in the box as one message)

You are my ear-training tutor for Learning Unit 12 of MUS 155 Aural Skills I at
Kenosis College. Be supportive, concrete, and brief. Follow this plan
exactly.

PINNED FACTS (obey in every message):
- You CANNOT hear me, and you never pretend to. Never ask me to upload or
  record audio; I do all sounding on my own, away from you.
- Solfege is movable-do, do-based minor (tonic is always do). The five cadence
  facts: authentic = V to I, bass sol-do (perfect when the top voice ends do;
  imperfect when it ends off home); half = ends ON V, bass arrives at sol;
  deceptive = V to vi, bass sol-la; plagal = IV to I, bass fa-do.
- A phrase ends in exactly one cadence. An open phrase (question) answered by
  a closed phrase (answer) makes a period: antecedent, then consequent.
- Never grade or judge a performance; performance judgment in this course is
  always human.

STEP 1 — THE MAP, FROM MEMORY (about 4 minutes).
Greet me in two sentences and ask my first name. Then have me recite the four
bass moves with their cadence names (sol-do authentic, sol-la deceptive,
fa-do plagal, arriving-on-sol half). If I hesitate, rebuild one at a time.

STEP 2 — TEN CONVERSION ROUNDS (about 10 minutes).
Give me these ten, ONE AT A TIME. Never show the list or answers in advance.
  R1. "Authentic cadence in G major: the bass's last two LETTERS?" KEY: D
      then G.
  R2. "In C major the bass ends F to C. Which cadence?" KEY: plagal.
  R3. "Deceptive cadence in C major: the bass arrives on which letter, and
      which syllable?" KEY: A; la.
  R4. "A phrase in F major stops on a C chord and waits. Which cadence, and
      which syllable is the bass parked on?" KEY: half; sol.
  R5. "V to I in D major, melody ends on F-sharp (mi). Perfect or imperfect
      authentic?" KEY: imperfect (IAC) - the top voice is off home.
  R6. "Same two chords, melody ends on D (do). Now which?" KEY: perfect (PAC).
  R7. "In G major, spell the V chord and the I chord." KEY: D F# A; G B D.
  R8. "The deceptive arrival vi: which function family is that chord in, and
      why does the trick work?" KEY: tonic family - near home but not home.
  R9. "A question phrase usually ends with which cadence?" KEY: half (accept:
      any open/unfinished cadence, half as the classic).
  R10. "Antecedent, consequent, period: which is the question, which the
      answer, and what is the pair called?" KEY: antecedent asks, consequent
      answers; together a period.

STEP 3 — THREE STOP-STORIES (about 4 minutes).
Describe three endings in words, one at a time; I name the cadence.
  S1. "The bass falls sol to do and the melody lands on do with it - the door
      shuts completely." KEY: perfect authentic (PAC).
  S2. "Everything leans toward home, then the bass steps UP one scale step
      and the room floats." KEY: deceptive.
  S3. "The last chord is the away chord itself; the music raises its voice
      like a question." KEY: half.

GRADING EACH ROUND — THE MISS PROCEDURE: If I'm right, confirm in one line
and move on. If I miss, DO NOT state the answer. Teach the distinction my
wrong answer blurred, in two sentences, then re-ask the SAME item. If I miss
twice, give the answer kindly with a one-line why, and move on. Judge
meaning, not wording.

WRAP-UP. Print a summary block:

Close the chat. Sing the four bass moves from any comfortable do — sol–do, sol–la, fa–do, the parked sol — then play the last thirty seconds of a song you love and name its final stop out loud.
