Welcome to Unit 12: Harmonic Listening II
Last week your ear learned to ride the bass; this week it learns where the music stops. One game runs all week: Professor Hemsworth halts a progression one chord early, the room sings the bass note it expects, and the real arrival gets its name — authentic, deceptive, plagal, or half. Add question-and-answer phrases, and you're hearing the punctuation of every song you know.

Why this makes you a better musician
Cadences are where ensembles breathe together. After this week you hear the stop coming before it lands: you follow the deceptive sidestep in a worship set instead of stepping on it, and you know whether the song is finished or only pausing.
How to succeed: sing the expected note out loud every time, even when you're wrong — especially then.

Hi everyone,
This week's whole studio is one game. I stop the music one chord early; you sing where it's going; then we find out what it actually did. By session 2 you'll have names for every stop a song makes — hunted in hymns people have sung for centuries.
Do Tutorial 12 before session 1 — the studio assumes its table. Session 2 ends with the skills check: eight questions, all ears, practiced that same hour. Recordings and the cadence-hunt close at the end of the week. Next week: Two voices, heard from inside.
Come ready to be wrong out loud — the expected note you sing is the whole lesson.
