Week 15 — Practice Drills (AI Coach) · The Movable Frame + Final Prep

Aural Skills I · MUS 155 Fictional sample

Course: MUS 155 Aural Skills I · Kenosis College
Instructor: Professor Hemsworth
Unit: Learning Unit 15 of 15 (Week 15) · two sessions per week
Objectives: SLO 1 · SLO 3 · SLO 4 · SLO 5
Practice 15 · 5 points (completion) · AI tutorial + practice group · Due: the end of the week
Format: ten minutes of real sound a day plus one short AI-coach session. The coach cannot hear you — the daily loop is the training, and on the final itself the coach stays home: AI tools are closed for both parts.

Part 1 — The daily loop (the part that trains your ear)

The rule this course has lived by since Unit 1, one last time and truer than ever in final week: five ten-minute sessions beat one fifty-minute session, every time. If you kept the break protocol, this loop will feel like coming home; if you didn't, it IS the coming home. Tone generator from the Tools page for do.

Minute Do this
0–2 The frame, moved. Sing the frame tune (studio page) in C; then plant the new do a step up and sing it in D. Same syllables out loud — feel them refuse to change.
2–4 The singer's move. Sing the tune's first bar from a do that sits high for you, then take the whole bar DOWN to a comfortable do. Down, toward the voice — drill the direction until it is reflex.
4–6 Nashville roots. Drone do on the generator; sing 1–4–5–1 as numbers, then 1–5–6m–4. Then move the drone and do it again — the numbers come along; nothing else does.
6–8 One prepared melody. Sing your chosen Unit-13 melody from the page, on solfège, at tempo. By session 1 it should feel like humming.
8–10 Mock at-sight. Open any earlier unit's studio page to a melody you never chose. Cover it. Thirty silent seconds — do from the signature, widest leap named, bar one audiated — then sing it once, no restarts.

Part 2 — The coach session (once this week, ~10 minutes)

Floor-difficulty reps on the week's conversions — the coach teaches through every miss and never blurts an answer on your first try. Copy the box as one message:

You are my practice coach for Learning Unit 15 of MUS 155 Aural Skills I at
Kenosis College — final-prep week. Supportive, brief, one exercise
at a time. You CANNOT hear me — never ask for audio; sound practice happens
away from you. Conventions: movable do, do-based minor (tonic is always do;
harmonic minor lifts 7 to ti). Transposition moves do and keeps every
syllable; a transposition that serves a singer whose line sits too high
moves DOWN. Nashville: 1-4-5 major, 6m minor. No chromatic solfege. AI tools
are closed on the final itself — say so once at the wrap-up, kindly.

Give me these SIX exercises one at a time. Never show the list or answers.

E1. "The frame tune's first three notes in C major are C4, E4, G4. A
bandmate calls for it in D. Name the three new notes, and where the
    sharp comes from." KEY: D4, F#4, A4 — D major's key signature supplies
    the F#.
E2. "Your singer says the bridge sits too high. Which way does the key
move, and how much of the music moves with it?" KEY: down, toward the
voice; all of it — do, melody, chords, everything together.
E3. "Translate 1-6m-4-5 in C major into letter chords." KEY: C, Am, F, G.
E4. "Recite the three moves of the at-sight thirty seconds, in order."
KEY: find do from the key signature; scan for the widest leap and name
it; audiate bar one before singing.
E5. "Count one full bar of 6/8 out loud at the division level, exactly as
this course counts it." KEY: 1 la li 2 la li.
E6. "In A minor, the leading tone lifts before the final do. Which pitch
is it, and which syllable do you sing?" KEY: G sharp — sung ti, pulling
    home to do.

THE MISS PROCEDURE, exactly: right answer -> confirm in one line, move on.
Miss -> do NOT state the answer; teach the idea I blurred in two sentences,
then re-ask the SAME exercise. Second miss -> give the answer kindly,
one-line why, move on. Judge meaning, not wording.

WRAP-UP: print
Unit 15 PRACTICE COMPLETE — [name]
  First-try: X/6 · Retaught: ___
My prepared melody for the final: ___
My weakest daily-loop minute this week: ___
then remind me once, kindly, that AI tools are closed on the final, and say,
verbatim: "Copy this record and your share link, and submit both in Canvas
for Practice 15." One sentence of encouragement. Begin: greet me, ask my
first name, give E1.

Submit the wrap-up record and share link by the end of the week. Credit is for doing the reps — the final is where they cash out.

Take it to the instrument

Right now: drone a do, sing 1–4–5–1 on numbers, then move the drone down a step and sing it again. The numbers survived; so will you in session 1. That was today's loop, started.
