Week 8 — Midterm Review & Exam
Why this matters
A preschool teacher at the block area and a pediatric nurse explaining an Apgar score lean on the same few distinctions, and this week gathers them and adds play.
In plain language
This chapter helps you review the first seven weeks before the midterm. Instead of rereading everything, you ask each topic for the one distinction it asks you to keep (a line between two ideas that are easy to mix up). You rerun each distinction on a record or a number you have already worked, so the review adds no new figures. Then you meet one new idea: play (what children do for its own sake, alone or together) as a window on how they grow. You finish by reading a short record of one preschooler's play, minute by minute.
- Already covered: Weeks 1 to 7, from the domains to temperament and attachment.
- This week: one distinction per topic, Parten's play categories, and the midterm.
- How they connect: every review example is one you have already worked.
- Where we're going next: Week 9 opens a new unit on early childhood.
Focus
What one distinction does each topic ask you to keep, and what does play show about a child?
By the end of this module, you should be able to:
- [ ] state and rerun the key distinction from each of Weeks 1 to 7
- [ ] name Parten's six play categories in order
- [ ] read a play time sample as percents and percentage points
To-do
Plan your week
- Read Chapter 8 (about 35–45 minutes), then the lecture and slides.
- Try the practice set (15–25 minutes) and do the discussion (about 45 minutes).
- Use the study guide and practice exam, then take the midterm on your own.
This week's checkpoint: code R4's tower building with one of Parten's categories.
You've got this
You have done this work already. Take it in order, and ask your instructor early if a step snags.
